    Earl Frederick Keith, 82, an active community man and Chester area farmer, died Wednesday of lung cancer at the Liberty Medical Center in Chester. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Chester. Following burial with military rites at the Chester Cemetery, a reception will be held at the church. Arrangements are by Rockman Funeral Chapel in Chester. Earl served in the U. S. Army in 1945-46, and enjoyed golfing, reading, playing cards, model trains, airplanes and traveling, Earl is survived...

    WASHINGTON (AP) The Obama administration is ordering a one-year moratorium on most road-building and other development on about 50 million acres (20 million hectares) of remote national forests. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack issued a directive Thursday reinstating for one year most of a Clinton-era ban against new road construction and development in national forests. The 2001 rule banned road-building and logging in more than 58 million acres of remote national forests, mostly in the West. Conflicting court decisions...

    WEST GLACIER AP) A Glacier National Park black bear was killed after an explosive device intended to scare it instead killed the animal. The National Park Service says that the black bear was being hazed May 22 in St. Mary area of the park to prevent it from becoming habituated to people. Rangers were using cracker shells fired from a shotgun to scare the animal. The bear was found dead the following day, and it was determined that a cracker shell entered the bear's body before exploding. A park spokesman said they will...
