  • 2014 Frontier Football Preview: Weapons at wide receiver

    George Ferguson|Updated Aug 11, 2014

It’s no secret that the Frontier Conference is loaded with star running backs this coming season. But it’s also no secret that there’s plenty of star quarterbacks in the league as well. And those quarterbacks have plenty of weapons to throw, too. In fact, the Frontier has some of the most productive wide receivers in all of NAIA football returning from last season, and they are once again ready to wreak havoc on opposing defenses. At Montana State University-Northern,...

  • Charter has meant trouble for customers

    Doug Marden|Updated Aug 11, 2014

Ever since Bresnan Communications was taken over by Charter, it has been nothing but trouble. My service was out Sunday and Monday, and I called the 800 number and their answer was: "We are working on it." My service has been out at least once a month since the takeover. Their TV commercials state better and more services are coming on the way. I heard Charter was being bought out by Time Warner Cable, which I hope is true. Is anyone else fed up with Charter? Let your voice be known about their poor service. Doug Marden...

  • Thoughts on fireworks, Great Northern Fair

    Milton Madsen|Updated Aug 11, 2014

Now that the noise of the Fourth of July is over and the fair is done, I have these comments to make. Havre City Council, without any consideration for our feelings, allowed fireworks to be set off inside the city limits. The first year of that ordinance my dog, who is older, was terrified and my neighbor's garage was set afire by a rocket of fireworks. This fire resulted in some individuals shouting outside my door and forcing me out of my own home, being very forceful and pushy. So next year I have figured out what my solut...

  • Our View: Justice should trump mercy in Rocky Boy sentencings

    Updated Aug 11, 2014
    16

U.S. District Court Judge Brian Morris will this week begin imposing sentences to defendants in the ongoing Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation scandal. He faces many difficult decisions as he balances compassion for the criminals vs. justice for the many victims. Let’s begin with the fact that there are too many people in jail. Many prisons are filled with people who could be better rehabilitated outside of prison walls and who could provide better service to the public by performing community service or being held under...

  • City block without water more than 19 hours

    John Paul Schmidt|Updated Aug 11, 2014
    2

The houses of the 1200 Block of 4th Street were without water beginning around 1 or 2 p.m. Sunday but were expected to have it back on before noon today. David Peterson, director of Havre Public Works, said the cause of the water line break is difficult to place because the infrastructure in the area is so old, it could have been many things. The crew the city had out Sunday could not get the job done, Peterson said, so they began work at 7 this morning. “They should, hopefully, have it on before noon today,” Peterson...

The Tennessee Titans got the 2014 NFL preseason off to a winning start. But for former Havre Blue Pony Marc Mariani, just playing in a live NFL game was exciting enough. Mariani, who missed both the 2012 and 2013 NFL seasons due to injury, played in his first preseason game since last August on Saturday night when the Titans beat the Green Bay Packers 20-16 at a rain-soaked LP Field in Nashville. The Titans scored three rushing touchdowns, while Mariani, who’s in his fifth...
