  • Small towns in focus: Loma

    John Paul Schmidt|Updated Sep 5, 2014

Loma sits wrapped around U.S. Highway 87 north of Fort Benton and south of Havre. The town has a population of 85, according to the 2010 U.S. Census. The town grew up at a mecca where three rivers meet: the Teton River, which runs into the Marias River, which runs into the Missouri. This meeting of rivers makes for some great fishing. Catfish, bass, northern pike, walleye and sauger are some of the species that travel the rivers throughout the year, and in some weeks, anglers...

    John Kelleher|Updated Aug 22, 2014

Tuss' mother died from ALS in 2002, and his wife, Pam Hillery, has the disease now. Brady dropped...

  • Our View: Hi-Line darts and laurels, August 22, 2014

    Updated Aug 22, 2014

Laurel — Bullhook Clinic is now officially open. The successful decade-long effort to get its own building was celebrated with a ceremony that included local, state and national officials. Volunteers, staffers and community leaders who helped out with the project are responsible for much of the success. But, to be honest, the federal stimulus legislation and Obamacare paid the lion’s share of the new building. They are decried as being government interference in our lives, but the truth be told, lots of people will be way...

  • Can't we at least be frenemies

    Pam Burke|Updated Aug 22, 2014

War doesn’t do as much for humanity as it used to. We’re all so angry and ill-tempered it’s tiresome. Where's the unity? After World War I and its exciting sequel World War II, the war franchise seems to have increasingly fizzled as a means to unify people. Allies aren’t close buddies. All the enemies declare their own victory. People are dead, money is spent and no one gets a sense of satisfaction. Enemies, allies, countrymen, neighbors, everyone is so crabby-...

Commissioner Jeff LaVoi, who sits on the airport board, said the tax would pay for Federal Aviation Administration-mandated work on the runway and for repairs and maintenance.
