  • Letter to the Editor - Montana needs special session to solve revenue problems

    Updated Oct 13, 2017

Editor: As a caregiver and a former para-educator, I’ve seen firsthand how important our state services are to Montana’s most vulnerable people. I’ve known families that had to live in their cars because they couldn’t afford anything else, and their kids depended on low-income school lunches for their survival. It’s also critical to their education. If you’re worried about where your next meal is coming from you’re not going to be focused on algebra or history. Family support services have already been cut in Great Falls a...

  • Letter to the Editor - Ratliff would be asset in city government

    Updated Oct 13, 2017

Editor, I am happy to endorse Lindsey Ratliff for Havre’s City Council. The first impression I had of Lindsey when she came to Havre in 2013 to teach history at Havre High School was “This is an intelligent young woman with enthusiasm and energy.” That impression has not changed. However, I have learned a few other things about her since then. I learned that she is community- and government-minded. One of the first things she did at the high school was create a Current Issues class to encourage students to learn about their c...

Even old Goliath found the 12 inches of snow that fell, not to mention the trees destroyed and the power outages that hit the community, a problem. Well, to be fair, the electrical power failure wasn't that bad for him, he has batteries for his radio. Now, big snow storms are never convenient - and although the moisture was welcome and the fires are surely totally out now - the reality is that most of...

    Chris Peterson|Updated Oct 13, 2017

When it comes to high school football, no two seasons are the same and there may be no one that knows that better than Havre High starting quarterback Trey Murphy. Montana comes home from two straight wins, now sitting...

They knew they'd see the Bears again. Northern twice led Rocky in the final minutes of that season-opener in Billings, before Sam Sparks broke the Lights' hearts with an 86-yard kickoff return for a score that sealed MSU-N's fate. But thanks to the Frontier Conference...

"That's the great thing about trying to be 1-0 every week," HHS head coach Ryan Gatch said. "No matter what happened last week, win or lose, our goal is always going to be 1-0.
