  • Letter to the Editor - Oppose efforts to take control of federal land

    Updated Oct 17, 2016

Editor, Parents across Montana applaud the recent Western Attorneys General report regarding transferring ownership of our public lands to state or private entities. The report found that there is no legal means to “transfer” our federal public lands to state control. We thank Montana Attorney General Tim Fox for his thoughtful support of this report. On the heels of this report — as parents raising families and paying taxes in Montana — we are concerned with the vital fact that states, and state taxpayers, simply aren’t...

  • Letter to the Editor - Bachmeier impresses Havreite

    Updated Oct 17, 2016

Editor I also am impressed with Jacob Bachmeier. He is a student at Montana State University-Northern but he has a plan on how he can finish school and still represent us. He is polite, intelligent and refreshing. He is a bright spot in this dismal election. He tells you why he is the best candidate, not why the opponent is a bad candidate. I appreciate that. Good luck Mr. Bachmeier. You have my support. Lita Thisselle Havre...

  • Letter to the Editor - Zinke has failed our trust

    Updated Oct 17, 2016

Editor, Congressman Ryan Zinke we appreciate your military service. Largely because of that service, we Montanans hired you to represent us in Washington. We certainly believe in giving a vet a shot. We had hoped that a spirit of patriotism would have molded your service in the U.S. House. You were sent there to get positive things done. Now it’s time for your performance evaluation. What legislation have you sponsored and shepherded through the legislature that has become law and had a positive impact on us? I think we know...

    Updated Oct 17, 2016

Editor, As the mother of two children who thrived in Montana public schools, I know how important education is to our children’s future. In my work with teachers and public employees, I’ve been fortunate to know many of the people running for statewide office in Montana. I am impressed with Melissa Romano, who is running for Montana Superintendent of Public Instruction. Melissa is a classroom teacher who loves her students and the teaching profession. She is an outstanding, master teacher. Denise Juneau, our current sup...

  • My message to Millenials on the 2016 election

    Updated Oct 17, 2016

I know you are busy but I hope you will take time to read this. My first presidential campaign was in 1960. The candidate was John F. Kennedy. I went to rallies, walked door to door, talked to everyone I could because I believed in him, and he passionately supported the issues I cared about: nuclear disarmament, women’s rights and civil rights. I knew if Kennedy lost, these goals would not be achieved. For these past five decades, many in my generation have fought — tirelessly — for what we believe in. We have campaigned and...

  • Juneau misrepresents truth in her advertising

    Updated Oct 17, 2016

Every election cycle, I’m reminded of the sad reality that politics are often void of truth. Just look at our own congressional race. Montanans have been barraged by a series of false attacks coming from Denise Juneau. It’s frustrating to see the truth become an afterthought. I’ve known Congressman Ryan Zinke for years. He is an honorable man, who speaks his mind and serves his constituents without prejudice or fear. I’ve come to appreciate his no-nonsense approach, because I know that whether we agree or not, when dealing...

  • Close: Lights just miss on win at RMC

    George Ferguson|Updated Oct 17, 2016

The Montana State University-Northern defense might have been reeling after two rough games back-to-back. But, on the road, against a very good offense, the Lights' defense stood tall, and as a result Northern found itself in one of its closest games in years, and in a dogfight with the Rocky Mountain College Battlin' Bears. Unfortunately, three truly huge plays by the Bears kept the Lights from getting over the hump Saturday at Herb Klindt Field in Billings, in what was a...

    Chris Peterson|Updated Oct 17, 2016

Winning in Lewistown has always been tricky for the Havre High football team. But last Friday night, the Blue Ponies road trip there turned into an absolute nightmare. With second place in the Central A conference and a home playoff game on the line, everything seemed to go the way of Eagles in a 34-21 win, while the Ponies were left to wonder what happened. With the loss, Havre is 5-3 overall on the season and 2-2 in the Central A. “We felt that we had a really good plan c...

    Chris Peterson|Updated Oct 17, 2016

Before its final stretch of Central A conference matches, the Havre High volleyball team went on the road this past Saturday and the results, were not what the Blue Ponies were hoping for. Havre, which came in the weekend with a 5-9 record and fresh off back-to-back wins, were wanting to give some payback to the Choteau Bulldogs, who beat the Ponies in Havre in four games last month. Yet, the story was much the same, as the Bulldogs won the match by the scores of 25-22, 25-19...
