    Police have found 14-year-old Aliyah Gray, and she is safe and sound. Havre Police Chief Gabe Matosich said the missing persons alert issued for her has been cancelled. Authorities will interview her and determine where is the best place for her now. He said there is a possibility she will face charges.   • UPDATE: Matter, Hutchens win; streets plan loses

    A proposal to raise taxes to fund a $30 million street repair program in Havre was defeated by voters Tuesday. Voters elected Ed Matter to City Council from Ward 1 and Caleb Hutchens from Ward 3. The streets plan was rejected 918-1,199, being defeated in all four wards. Hutchens bested J.D. Cass 334-214. He succeeds Allen "Woody" Woodwick who stepped down after 10 years. Matter got 441 votes, besting Doug Vance who got 283. Details in Wednesday's Havre Daily News....

    Registered voters in Havre and Hingham have until 8 p.m. to turn in ballots to the Hill County’s Clerk and Recorder’s office in today’s local elections. In both cities, local elections are conducted by mail-in ballot only. The Hill County Clerk and Recorder’s office said that as of this morning, 2,042 ballots have been received by the office, 2,000 of which have been from Havre. Some 3,635 were sent out Oct. 14 to voters in Havre, while the remaining 73 were sent to those in Hingham. Havre has two open city council races....

    Weather forecasters are predicting the Havre area will get “its first taste of winter” in the next 24 hours. National Weather Service is predicting 1-2 inches of accumulation of snow by Wednesday. People living in the Bear Paws can look forward to 2-6 inches of snow, meteorologist Keith Jaszka said.     A Havre woman pleaded not guilty Monday in state District Court in Havre to charges she broke into an older relative’s home on at least two occasions and stole items including jewelry and credit cards. According to a charging document, police investigation found that Erica Dion, born in 1982, pawned the woman’s jewelry at Great Falls and Havre businesses.
