  • Obama denies the Keystone XL pipeline

    Updated Nov 6, 2015

Staff and wire report President Barack Obama rejected an application to build the Keystone XL pipeline Friday after seven years of federal review, declaring the proposed project wouldn't serve U.S. national interests and would have undercut America's global leadership on climate change. The 1,179-mile proposed pipeline would not have lowered U.S. gas prices, Obama said, nor would it have contributed to U.S. jobs long-term or make the U.S. less dependent on foreign energy. Flanked by Vice President Joe Biden and Secretary of...

  • View from the North 40: A little bright light in this darkness

    Pam Burke|Updated Nov 6, 2015

All across the U.S. last weekend people were celebrating Halloween and mourning the start of Christmas advertising season. Poor, simple fools. One thing and one thing only mattered: the end of daylight saving time signaling the start of flashlight season. The long cold months of double darkness when both morning and evening chores are completed without aid of sunlight. Daylight saving time changed to battery spending time, if you will. When Jesus returned to the city of Capernaum, the news about the signs and wonders he had performed had spread and so many people came to him that even the doorway was blocked by the crowds. • Struggling Griz, Cats search for redemption

    George Ferguson|Updated Nov 6, 2015

It's been a difficult week for both the Montana Grizzlies and Montana State Bobcats. And both teams will be happy just to get back on the football field this Saturday. However, it is a question as to what kind of team each will be when they do play. The No. 23 Grizzlies (3-2, 4-4) once again find themselves broiled in controversy heading into Saturday's road game at lowly Idaho State. Montana is coming off a devastating road loss at Portland State last week, and if that weren'...

  • Lights try to collar hungry Dawgs

And Saturday night in Dillon, the Lights can make plenty of noise because a win at nationally ranked UM-Western would spoil any chance the Bulldogs have of winning the Frontier Conference championship. Northern (0-8, 0-9) faces the No. 13 Bulldogs (6-2, 6-2) at 6 p.m. Saturday at Vigilante F...
