Mason Case said he and his family are concerned for the well being of his older brother Evan Case, 25, a Havre High School and Montana State University-Northern graduate. "We are just trying to find him at this point," Mason Case said Thursday. Repeated calls to the U.S Air Force's Office of...

  • Donald Trump's Amerika

    Updated Dec 16, 2016

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell ... Yes, that Mitch McConnell ... is backing a bipartisan investigation into allegations that the Russian government tampered with American elections and maybe, just maybe, helped Donald Trump win the presidency. So can we all agree that this is a thing now? Can we all agree that hacking by a foreign power hostile to American interests isn’t politics or sour grapes from Democrats, no matter what the President-elect claims in a series of fact-free tweets? That it’s actually a grave mat...

  • Ironically, some votes count more

    Updated Dec 16, 2016

The Universe loves irony. As proof of my wisdom in this, I give you exhibit No. 1053, the 2016 Election of the President of these United States. As pretty much everybody on Earth and in the planet’s geosynchronous, elliptical and circular orbits and still subject to its gravitational pull, knows, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump beat Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton to become future 45th president of the U.S. Ironically, though Clinton won the popular vote, receiving the highest number of votes in h...

  • Trump resistance pins last hope on Electoral College

    Updated Dec 16, 2016

The Electoral College meets this Monday in what will be the final step in Donald Trump’s improbable rise to the presidency. But it will also be the last chance for #NeverTrump dead-enders to keep Trump out of the White House. And now, the anti-Trump effort has been given new fuel by allegations of Russian attempts to interfere with the presidential election. Trump won 306 electoral votes. There are 306 electors, actual people, who are expected to vote for him next Monday in Electoral College meetings in state capitals across...

The Havre Food Bank is run by District 4 HRDC and serves families throughout Hill County who are in need of food assistance. • Pope to mark Fatima centenary with May 2017 trip to Portugal

    Updated Dec 16, 2016

You know, Lord, sometimes one finds interesting “things” while looking through a stack of papers. Up popped this interesting “story,” which follows: Flower of the Holy Night Originating in Mexico, the poinsettia brings us a delightful legend telling of a small Mexican girl name Pepita. One Christmas Eve, Pepita was very sad. She wanted so much to present a gift to the Christ child at the evening church service, but Pepita was poor. She had no gift. Her cousin Pedro tried to console her as they walked to the church. “Pepita,...

  • Practical pastoring: Faithfulness of God

    Updated Dec 16, 2016

In Book Five I share update letters that Pastor Dan wrote to me and Karrie in order to help you see the faithfulness of God in a tough set of circumstances. Who can borrow money when he does not have a job or a steady stream of income? God’s servant can. Karrie and I had a rough time borrowing money for a house payment just a couple of months before Dan wrote to me. When we sold our house in Shepherd, Montana, we had $25,000 cash to use as a down payment on the house we purchased from Dan and Judy. Banks were not i...

  • Out Our Way:

    Updated Dec 16, 2016

Mark 10:32-34 Out our way, we find cattle trails don’t always go in a straight line, yet cows seem to know that all that matters is that they get where they are going and do what they have to do to get there. Ranchers and farmers know this, too — and sometimes the way they have to travel is not very easy or pleasant. I, for one, rejoice every winter when its 30-below outside and another “Alberta Clipper” is roaring across the plains that while I have cowboyed a bit, I have always only been a part-timer wanna be. I don’t h...

Today and Saturday, Havre will be in Great Falls for a pair of meets, as the Great Falls High Bison and CMR Rustlers host a weekend of the Great Falls Invitational. And the competition will be good for the Blue Ponies, who will see teams like Class A rival Hardin today, as well as a h...

  • Nationals skate in Minnesota

    Chris Peterson|Updated Dec 16, 2016

One of the great things about the North American Tier 3 Hockey League is that it tries to give players as much exposure as possible. One of the avenues the league uses to do that is the NA3HL Showcase, which is held annually in Blaine, Minnesota, and once again, the Glacier Nationals will get a chance to show what they can do against some new opponents. The Nationals, who open play in the showcase tonight at 5:15 against the Lockhart Express, will also face the Maine Wild...

  • HHS girls travel to Belgrade, Livingston

    Chris Peterson|Updated Dec 16, 2016

For years, the Havre High girls basketball team has dominated the Central A conference. And this weekend, on the road against Belgrade and Livingston, the Blue Ponies will look to continue that trend. After going on the road and knocking off Eastern-A foes Sidney and Laurel, Havre will look to win two more on the road, this time against Belgrade, who they will play at 6 tonight, as well as Livingston Saturday. That game will start at 2 p.m. “I think that we have done well i...

  • Lights quiet the Storm at home

    George Ferguson|Updated Dec 16, 2016

It may have been cold and snowy outside, but, the Montana State University-Northern Lights stayed red-hot. On Thursday night, the Lights kept their perfect record going when they blasted Nueta Hidatsa College, a team from New Town, North Dakota, 111-63 in non-conference action inside the Armory Gymnasium. It was Northern's first game since the Lights knocked off Lewis-Clark State two weeks ago, and while head coach Shawn Huse noticed some rust, he was still pleased with what... Full story

  • George Ferguson Column: Now I'm rooting for the Titans

    George Ferguson|Updated Dec 16, 2016

Marc Mariani has played for two teams in the NFL. And, as much as I love Marc, he knows I’m not really a fan either. Truth be told, it’s not that I dislike the Tennessee Titans, no I was just indifferent towards them until they drafted Marc. But when he played for the Chicago Bears, that was a different a story. You can’t be a Minnesota Vikings fan, like I am, and root, or even care about the Bears, and when Marc went there, I told him as much. And while Mariani had great succ...

The fifth-ranked Lights were on the road to battle arch rival, and seventh-ranked Southern Oregon in a key West Region Showdown — a showdown the Lights wound up winning handily. MSU-N got bonus points and a pair of close decisions to beat the Raiders 23-13 on their own mat. "We wrestled very well t... Full story
