2 CHAMBER WORKPLAN 2010 January 2010 The Chamber and its incoming president Terry Schend, president The year 2009 was celebrated as the 100th year of the Havre Area Chamber of Commerce’s existence. The Chamber organization means various things to members and non-members alike. The Chamber adopted a slogan in the past of “Havre Has It” to promote our community doing business at home. Today’s purchases are conducted across many spectrums: buying locally, by phone and mail ordering and via the Internet. We all have to be pleased about the availability of having so many and varied means of shopping for just the right gift, appliance or tool. As a community member, I appreciate the time, energy and resources that residents and local businesses furnish to school classrooms, student activities, Schend sporting events and local fundraising for charities and special events. A purchase made locally allows a merchant to hire staff, pay taxes and support school and special events in keeping our community viable. Local businesses of all sorts survive by providing what a community needs when it comes to home repairs, a special gift for a special someone, clothing, dining out, vehicle purchase or repairs, lawn services or snow removal and health care of all kinds, therefore we are all involved in businesses. Havre’s Chamber of Commerce is not only about businesses, but a community as a whole. The chamber is involved with Leadership High School, agriculture appreciation events, local sporting events with volunteer staffing and supporting and coordinating other local events as well as promoting tourism to show off our local cultural flair and history. As incoming president of the Chamber, the current motto speaks volumes’ of our community and businesses by stating “Havre, It’s The People.” Havre’s growth and livelihood shall depend on its citizens as well as its businesses; one cannot survive without the other.
