The Montana State University-Northern Skylights are picking up steam. On Friday night at the Armory Gymnasium, the Skylights picked up steam in the second half, and went on to beat the Great Falls for the second week in a row. Northern won 73-67 to improve to 6-4 in the Frontier Conference and 14-8 overall.
After a shaky first half in which the Skylights went into the lockerroom tied with the Argos at 26-26, they turned on the offense. Nikki Tresch hit a 3-pointer to open the second half, and the Skylights reeled off runs of 10-2 and 9-0 to build a 19-point lead late in the contest. UGF ralled some down the stretch, but couldn't overcome MSU-N's big lead.
Jordan Bruursema led a balanced attack with 16 points, while Laci Keller scored 15 and grabbed eight rebounds. Tresch also scored 15, while Kylee Denham had 12 points and eight boards. Freshman Erin Legel scored a game-high 17 for the Argos, who have now lost nine straight games.
MSU-N is now 14-8 overall and will take to the road next weekend with games at Montana Tech and Carroll College.
