And though the North Stars got just one of their scheduled two games in due to weather, they did come home with a victory. Sunday afternoon, the North Stars defeated the Electric City Volts senior Babe Ruth Team, 8-4 in a six-inning game. The win was Havre’s first of the season, while the North Stars are 0-2 in Northern District play.

But it was hard to overlook Blue Pony Martha Stocker at this weekend's Central A Divisional in Livingston. Stocker captured the divisional championship in the shot put with a toss of 34.02, and for good measure she finished fourth in the discus. The Havre boys successfully defended the Central A title by scoring 41 points to edge Lewistown by nine points, while the Havre girls scored 36 points and posted a solid second-place finish. Individually, freshman Jeff Miller captured the Central A boys singles title, while the senior duo of Nick Rhines and J.J. Hovet placed second in doubles. Havre’s top duo of Lainey Chagnon and Jennifer Cichosz reached the girls doubles final and placed second while Breck Don and Ellery Bresler placed third, and Brandy Lambourne placed third in singles.

The Ponies finished the regular season with a 3-5 conference record, and as the No. 4 seed heading into the first annual Central A divisional softball tournament. The newly decided on divisional tournamen now meant the Ponies had a shot at extending their season after gaining momentum through the regular season. But after a 1-2 weekend, with two very tight, and tough losses, the Ponies will have to wait until next year to make another state title run.

Competing in Livingston on Friday and Saturday, at the Central A divisional meet, the Blue Ponies were well represented. And though neither team earned a team title, a lot of individual athletes have a lot to be proud of, with just the state meet remaining this season.

Yes, watching the Havre High Blue Ponies take one of the top three spots, and punch their ticket to state after a 3-5 regular season conference record, would have been the icing on the cake, but all in all, the tournament was an all-around success in every sense.

Friday and Saturday, the Lewistown Golden Eagles, Livingston Rangers, Belgrade Panthers, Havre Blue Ponies, and Browning Indians, all battled it out for a spot in the Class A state tournament. The inaugural Central A tournament was played at the Sixth Avenue Memorial Softball Filed in Havre, where the Panthers were crowned conference champions, with an 11-5 win over the Rangers in the chipper.

The Central A divisional tournament will run Friday and Saturday at the Sixth Avenue Memorial Field in Havre. The No. 1 Lewistown Golden Eagles, No. 2 Livingston Rangers, No. 3 Belgrade Panthers, No. 4 Ponies, and No. 5 Browning Indians will all battle for the top three spots this weekend. This is the first-ever Central A tourney and the Ponies are thrilled to play it at home.

After two weeks off, the Central A Blue Pony boys and girls will compete at the Central A divisional tournament in Livingston. The tournament runs today and Saturday, beginning at this afternoon at 4 p.m. Saturday action will resume at 10 a.m.

The Central A meet begins Thursday afternoon in Havre, and weather permitting, will wrap up Friday evening in Lewistown. The top four boys and girls singles players, and top four doubles teams on each side will move on to the Class A state tournament next Thursday in Polson.

Area Class C teams and athletes will converge on Great Falls’ Memorial Stadium Thursday for the 2013 Northern C Divisional Track Meet, where spots in the upcoming Class C state meet will be on the line.

The North Star Knights had a lot of big performances at last Wednesday's 9C girls meet in Havre. Among them was Delainey Spicher, who swept the hurdle events and also placed second in the fast 400 meters. Spicher, a three-sport standout at North Star and a member of the 2012 Class C state championship track team, won the 100 hurdles in 17.50 and the 300 hurdles in 50.51. She also finished the 400 in 1:07.20, while being part of North Star's top relay teams. Spicher also participates in volleyball and basketball.
