    Daniel Horton|Updated Jul 18, 2013

Over the years, chances are David Denny could be found on either the baseball diamond, or the golf course. Denny has been a steady participant and athlete in Havre, making a lot of noise on the Havre High Blue Pony golf team, and in Havre youth, and American Legion baseball. And as a recent graduate from Havre High, Denny has already finished his prep golf career, and now nears the end of his baseball career. As a sophomore, junior, and senior, Denny was on the HHS golf team....

  • It's here: It's officially fair week in Havre

    George Ferguson|Updated Jul 15, 2013

Summer seemed like it only arrived in Havre yesterday. But the Great Northern Fair usually marks the halfway point in Havre’s summers, and that halfway point has arrived. The annual Great Northern Fair begins Wednesday, and the sports scene at the fair will be as busy as ever. However, there are some changes to the sport’s schedule this week. One major change is, there are no longer local and professional truck pulls. The truck pull used to occupy the Saturday sports slot at...

  • Golf on the Hi-Line: BCGC stands the test of time

    George Ferguson|Updated Jul 15, 2013

Beaver Creek Golf Course. To golfers in Havre, those words are synonymous with the history of golf on the Hi-Line. In fact, there was a time when BCGC, the famed 9-hole course west of Havre, was truly the lone public course between Shelby to the west, Malta to the east and Fort Benton to the south. Of course, the golf course boom in Montana over the last three-plus decades has changed that, and soon, Havre will have a full 18-hole course at Prairie Farms. But as it relates to...

  • Golf on the Hi-Line, part five: There's great golf up north

    George Ferguson|Updated Jul 11, 2013

People who are avid golfers love to get out and travel. They certainly support their home course, and in our area, that’s usually Prairie Farms, Beaver Creek or the Chinook Golf Club, or in some cases, all three. But let’s face it, golfers love to visit different courses and test their games against unfamiliar surroundings and setting. And Montana offers plenty of that, with currently 119 courses listed in the state’s directory. But in our area, you don’t need to stay in Mont...

The all-star baseball season is winding down across Montana, and both the Havre 13U and 15-year-old Babe Ruth all star teams took another step toward their respected state tournaments over the weekend. The 15-year-old squad played the Great Falls Shockers on Sunday in Havre, but suffered two losses by scores of 14-12 and 16-9. Unfortunately, the 13U program didn’t fair any better, as they faced Lewistown in Lewistown and dropped two games by scores of 16-14 and 15-5. In Game 1 for the 15-year-olds, a four-run first inning a...

There wasn’t a lot of offense in the first game, but Havre did get on the board first, taking a 4-0 lead in the first inning. But the Royals out-produced the North...

    George Ferguson|Updated Jul 9, 2013

With the Fourth of July falling right in the middle of the week, competitive golf took a backseat to the holiday last week. Though local courses were booked solid with golfers, families and plenty of fun in the sun last week, men’s and women’s leagues took the week off, and will resume starting tonight at Prairie Farms. The local tournament scene also took a week off, but that will get right back into the swing of things Sunday at Prairie Farms as the annual Rotary Blast Tourn...

  • Golf on the Hi-Line: Signal Point, a historic stop

    George Ferguson|Updated Jul 8, 2013

Through the first three installments of the Golf on the Hi-Line series, we’ve taken a close look at three courses which certainly keep Hi-Line golfers busy during the summer months. And next week, we’ll take a look at the oldest and most historic course in the area. But the U.S. Highway 2 corridor isn’t the only place in our area which is golf crazy. Our neighbors to the south like golf, too, and Signal Point Golf Course just outside Fort Benton is the course of choice for m...
