    By Saturday night, the Glacier Nationals and the Billings Bulls are going to be sick of each other and after they square off for the third time in eight days, who could blame them.     The Havre High volleyball team was in desperate need of wins heading into its matches with Laurel and Hardin last Saturday. And with some offensive power from Blue Pony senior Lacey Waid, the Ponies got two victories. Waid totaled seven kills against Laurel and seven against Hardin last Saturday, in helping the Ponies sweep both opponents. She also played solid defense and served tough as well.     After several months of no league bowling, Hi-Line Lanes welcomed back bowlers in all leagues. Scores did not show that they took any time off, as the scores were as hot as the 90-degree weather. Roman Surber just missed another 300 with a 297, (his third try for the magic 300 in one year). Some keglers don’t get three chances in a lifetime.     For the second time this season, Havre High sophomore golfer Jerod Boles earned medalist honors in a varsity tournament. On Saturday at Beaver Creek Golf Course, Boles took first place at the Havre Invitational by shooting a career-low 75. Boles shot a 38 on the front nine, then bettered that score by shooting a 1-over-par 37 on the back nine. Boles helped Havre to a second-place finish in the team race.     The Chester/J-I Hawks had a big 2012 season. And they continued on the opening night of 2013 with the help of star receiver Justin May. Saturday night, the Hawks beat the Chinook Sugarbeeters 16-12 behind the running of May. May scored three times on runs of 50, 2 and 7 yards.     For the second straight year, the Tennessee Titans and the NFL will be without former Havre Blue Pony and Montana Grizzly great Marc Mariani. And for the second straight season, Mariani will be without football on Sundays. In a surprise move Saturday night, the Titans decided to place Mariani, in his fourth year in Nashville, on injured reserve for the 2013 season.     A Havre men’s slowpitch softball team laid claim to a state championship last weekend in Helena, and is now headed to a national tournament. The Valley Furniture men’s slowpitch team captured the Montana ASA State Men’s E-Division championship last Sunday in Helena, and advanced to the ASA National Tournament in Kent, Wash.     A men’s fastpitch softball team based out of Havre continues to be the cream of the crop in the state of Montana. For the second straight year, and the fourth time in the last five, the Gallery Lounge fastpitch softball team claimed the Montana ASA State Tournament. The state tournament was held last weekend in Missoula, the Gallery Lounge went unbeaten, including an 9-0 shutout win over the Press Box of Missoula in Sunday’s championship game. Instead, Donoven was known more for his athletic abilities on the football field, the basketball court and in track and field. And any chance the North Stars had to reach this week’s Class A state tournament was going to be a tough one.     It was a rocky start to the postseason for Havre North Stars, but the window is still open for a run at a trip to the state tournament. Thursday morning the American Legion North Stars lost in the opening round of the 2013 Northern District baseball tournament in Vauxhall, Alberta.     Soccer is on the rise in Montana, and Havre is making sure it keeps pace with the rest of the state.
