SHIRLEY KIRKALDIE

HAYS Shirley Marie Kirkaldie, 62, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, at her home in Hays of cancer.

Wake and Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Mission Recreation Center in Hays. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's Mission with burial to follow in St. Paul's Mission Cemetery.

Kirkaldie was born Aug. 11, 1938 at Fort Belknap to Norman and Marie (Werk) Plummer and was raised in Hays. She went to school at St. Paul's Mission and Hays Public School.

She married Tom Kirkaldie July 26, 1957 at Hays. They lived in Colstrip from 1975 to 1990, where she worked as a security guard for a time. They returned to Hays and for two years she worked for the census bureau.

She enjoyed bingo, crossword puzzles, and visiting with friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and four grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Tom Kirkaldie of Hays; son, Arlen Kirkaldie of Forsyth; adopted son, Kenneth "Tuffy" Helgeson of Lodgepole; daughters, Patti Eagleman and Ione Snell, both of Hays; adopted daughters, Janice Brockie of Hays and Deanna Sells of Billings; brothers, Virgil Allen McConnell of Wolf Point, Frank and Floyd McConnell both of Hays; sisters, Barbara Plummer of Billings, Arleta Plummer of Honey Creek, Iowa, Rhonda Snell of Hays, Trenda Dubois of Hays, Lou Werk of Hays, Ilene Cheney of Spokane, Wash., Naomie Hinkle of Great Falls, Judy Gray of Hays, and Margaret June Martin of Hays; father, Virgil McConnell of Hays; 12 grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren, and 20 god-children.

Adams Funeral Home of Malta is in charge of arrangements.
