Dennison looking out for number one

If you listen closely enough up here in Havre when the wind is blowing out of the southwest, you can hear George Dennison down at the University of Montana in Missoula feeding at the public trough. Not content with his lavish salary, his compensation from various boards and his recent $75,000 pay raise, Mr. Dennison now has asked the state's retirement board to suspend its rules so that he can get another $200 a month in retirement.

The board wisely rejected his request.

At a time when Dennison has frozen faculty and staff salaries and raised tuition, he is still looking out after number one. His time at UM has been characterized by a cynical arrogance and a shameful selfishness. I am reminded of Leona Helmsly who said, "Only the little people pay taxes." And so the faculty, staff and students of our university system bear the burden of tough economic times, while George stuffs what he can in his pockets. I have seen in my own career real leadership, real sacrifice, real generosity and real compassion; sadly, such leadership is absent down in Missoula.
