I'm writing in reply to Ray Peck's letter which takes a few jabs at me while endorsing my opponent for Public Service Commission, Don Ryan.

Ray Peck writes, "I am confident Don Ryan would have had been among those who opposed SB 390 )deregulation).

That's an interesting take, given that Mr. Ryan's own brother, Bill, was among the Democrat legislators who voted for de-regulation in 1997. Don was not a member of the Legislature at this time, and I will leave it up to voters to decide whether Don would have disagreed with his brother, who has been working on his PSC campaign, or not.

In any case, Don Ryan himself voted to continue deregulation in 2007, against the votes of most members of his party. Mr. Peck then implies that Mr. Ryan is supported by Greg Jergeson, the PSC's chairman. In fact, Mr. Jergeson and the three other Democrats on the PSC recruited Rep. Julie French, D-Scobey, to run against Mr. Ryan in the primary.

Don Ryan was not most people's first choice, not even Democrats!

Finally, allow me to respond to Mr. Peck's suggestion that I'm dry behind the ears, politically speaking.

I plead guilty as charged!

People have had enough of insiders from the political machine. I have a real job in the real world. I manage six employees, have been around the world as a journalist, and know a heck of a lot more about energy policy than my opponent.

I'm happy to compare my experience and education (I'm a graduate of Highwood, Harvard, and Cambridge) to that of my opponent (who runs a daycare) any day, because I'm confident mine is more relevant and more useful to service on the PSC.

My record will show that I am the only pro-consumer candidate in the race for PSC. I'm running as a Republican, but I've got a record of independence, intelligence and opposing taxpayer-funded handouts to special interests.

Please visit my website, http://www.kavulla.com, for more information about me and the issues facing the PSC. Don't let life-long political insiders distort the issues in this important race. Please educate yourself before you vote.
