New Havre City Council gets down to business

Havre City Council jumped right into the new year's new business, with new council members.

After swearing in the officials elected last November and the new Havre Police Chief Kirk Fitch, the council voted on a couple of resolutions adopting budgets for the city's Community Transportation Enhancement Program projects and lending support for another grant process for Havre Day Activity Center.

Resolutions 3609 and 3610 were passed unanimously, accepting budgets for two of the three CTEP projects the city approved last year, to replace sidewalks outside the North Central Senior Center and Lincoln-McKinley Primary School.

According to Havre City Clerk Lowell Swenson, the senior center project's budget was approved at $13,690.39.

The Lincoln-McKinley project is a bit more at $70,233.81

The third project that was approved last year, to replace sidewalks downtown around the Atrium Mall, did not come through yet.

"I haven't heard anything on the Atrium one yet, " Swenson said. "I think it's been approved, but maybe it was approved later than the other ones. "

While no money was involved in the next effort, the council did vote to write a letter of support for a renovation that the Havre Day Activity Center is attempting to fund with a Community Development Block Grant and help from Bear Paw Development Corp.

The center is trying to expand their facility, adding thousands of square feet they hope to use as a training facility to continue their pursuit of providing employment to people with disabilities.

Havre Day Activity Center is still in the early stages of the process, trying to secure funds for a Preliminary Architectural Report to figure out how much the expansion would cost, so they can apply for another grant to help with that money.
