Three Pony gridders named Class A All-State

A lot of fans didn't know what to expect from the very young Havre High football team this past season. But after another run into the state playoffs, and after a handful of athletes garnered All-Conference honors, the Central A Blue Ponies keep getting noticed for what they did on the field.

Three HHS players were honored recently by being named to the 2012 Class A All-State Team.

Senior Zach Plum was named an All-State wide receiver, while Thurman Holdsclaw was named an All-State tight end, and Dane Warp was named an All-State quarterback for HHS.

"If you look back on our season," Havre High head coach Jason Christenson said. "And look at the kids that really stepped up and had breakout years, and outstanding seasons, then those three really come to mind. I am really proud of them, they played hard and prepared hard, and are now being rewarded for that."

With how potent the Pony offense was through the air, it is fitting that the HHS quarterback, and his two favorite weapons were honored at one of the highest levels possible.

Warp, the freshman quarterback had a record-setting season, and was a major contributor. Warp set records including TD passes in a game with five (achieved that twice in 2012), completions in a game with a 25-of-33 outing, and passing yards in a game with 438 yards. Warps All State honors come shortly after being named a First-Team All-Conference quarterback.

Plum and Holdsclaw were on the receiving end of Warp's passes all season long. Holdsclaw was also named the Central A's MVP. Holdsclaw was also named All-State last season. But Plum also got his name in the HHS record books several times, including for interceptions in one game with three, interceptions in a season with nine, touchdown receptions in a game with four, and receiving yards in one game with 241 yards.

"As seniors, that is what you play football for," Christenson said.

"And what you work your butt off for those four years for. Not only do you want the opportunity to win a championship, but you also want to get recognized by the other coaches in the state, as one of the best players in the state. That is what this is, and as a senior that is something that you work hard for.

"And I don't know if Havre High has ever had a freshman quarterback be All-State," he added. "And that is a heck of an accomplishment for Dane. Some kids go four years and not get this recognition, for him to be selected is outstanding and is special for him. But he still has a lot of work ahead of him, but he did play very, very well and deserved this."
