Snow again hits Montana

The predicted snowstorm did blanket Montana over the weekend, with north-central Montana seeing about 2 inches of snowfall, with the temperatures dropping to the sub-zero range by Sunday morning.

Other parts of the state saw significantly more snow — a half-foot in some areas — but the forecast for this week calls for a slight chance of snow through the week and warmer temperatures, in the 20s and 30s, in this area.

The snow moved over the Rocky Mountains Thursday, breaking over the front and spilling onto the plains by Friday night.

Kalispell, which received slightly more than 2 inches of snow Thursday through Saturday, is expecting snow every day this week, with up to a foot expected to drop through next weekend. Missoula was dumped on with nearly 8 inches falling Friday and the total through the weekend nearly 9 inches, AccuWeather.com reports.

Close to 4 more inches of snow is expected in that part of the state through next weekend.

East of the Front, snow started falling in the Havre area by late Friday afternoon and came off and on through Saturday night. Most towns in this region reported about 2 inches of snow, although Chester saw 5 inches drop Saturday and much colder temperatures, with a low of minus 9 Saturday and the low down to minus 12 Sunday.

Farther west, from Kremlin through Chinook, AccuWeather reports about 2 inches of accumulated snow and lows of minus 4 by mid-Sunday morning.

Harlem saw less snow — AccuWeather reports about 1 inch fell there — but the accumulation picked up from Malta to about Glendive, with the weather service reporting 3.5 inches to nearly 6 inches in communities on that stretch of the Hi-Line.

Other parts of the state also saw more snow as the storm blew east from the Front. Great Falls had heavy snowfall off-and-on through Saturday, with nearly 6 inches dropping on the Windy City Saturday with a low of minus 2 and a low Sunday of minus 8.

Helena saw about 3.5 inches of snow, with Bozeman receiving more than 5 inches through Sunday. Farther south, Dillon barely was hit, with AccuWeather reporting that community saw about 0.2 inches of snow Saturday.

Billings also saw only a dusting, 0.4 inches Saturday, with Miles City receiving 0.9.

AccuWeather, National Weather Service and Weather Channel all predict moderating temperatures for north-central Montana this week with sunny or partly sunny skies, highs in the 20s or 30s — The Weather Channel predicts a high of 40 in Havre Tuesday — and a chance of snow Wednesday.
