The Christmas break is over. Now, girls high school basketball on the Hi-Line is back in full swing.

This past week's return to the hardwood saw action and excitement from Tuesday to Saturday as teams begin the trek

towards the postseason.

On Tuesday, the Chester/J-I Hawks returned from the break and continued their winning ways by beating arch rival North Star 47-35 in Rudyard. C/J-I built a 22-14 halftime lead, and though the Knights crept closer for a time in the second half, they couldn't catch the unbeaten Hawks.

Nikole Wolfe led the Hawks with 13 points, while Stina Haaland was right behind with 12. Shelby Lipp returned from injury to lead North Star with 11 points, while Lisa Carlon chipped in with 10.

Tuesday night also saw Harlem notch a big District 2B win. The Wildcats beat rival Poplar 49-47 in Harlem. The game was tight throughout, but Harlem finished the game on a 15-10 run to pull ahead for the close victory.

Tesche Ereaux scored a game-high 18 points and Coco Moore added 17 in the win.

More nonconference action took place Tuesday as Rocky Boy and Big Sandy renewed an old rivalry. And on their home floor, the Pioneers trounced the Class B Morning Stars 54-37. Rocky Boy stayed close, trailing 30-20 at the half, but the Pioneers had too much firepower in the end.

Mateila Cline scored a career-high 22 points for Big Sandy, while Shanya Gilead scored 15 and Molly Herron earned 11. Rocky Boy got 12 points by Sabrina LaForge in the loss.

Box Elder also rolled to a non conference victory Thursday. In Heart Butte, the Bears crushed the Warriors 66-28. Aricka Wolf Chief led the way with 18 points. Brandi Buffalo scored 11 and Crystal Stamper notched 10 points for the red-hot Bears.

In a huge 9C clash on Friday night, it was the Chinook Sugarbeeters who were too much for the Pioneers. Chinook went into Big Sandy and beat the Pioneers 55-42. The Pioneers led 25-22 at halftime, but Chinook ran away in the second half. The Beeters outscored Big Sandy 33-17 in the final 16 minutes.

Taryn Norby continued her fine play for the Beeters, scoring a game-high 27 points. Makhayla Farmer and Kayla Hanson each pitched in with seven points, while Big Sandy got 11 from Herron, 11 from Cline and 10 from Brooke Leader. Herron also nailed three 3-poionters.

The North Star Knights got back back on track Friday with a dominant 53-38 win in Sunburst. Against the Refiners, nine Knights scored, led by Lisa Carlon's 18 points. Shelby Lipp added seven in the victory.

Things didn't go as well for Hays-Lodge Pole Friday. The Thunderbirds were beaten 53-39 by Roy-Winifred on the road. HLP outscored the Red Raiders 20-9 in the final eight minutes, but the Raiders went on an 18-3 run in the third quarter to easily pull away. In the loss, the T-Birds were led by Kristie Runsabove with 15 points.

Harlem was also on the wrong end of a lopsided game Friday night. In Shelby, the Wildcats were downed by the Coyotes 62-23. Coco Moore scored nine points for Harlem, while Monique Doney added seven.

And Saturday didn't get any better for the Wildcats. Against the powerful Glasgow Scotties, Harlem fell 58-19 at home. Rikki Horne led Harlem with seven points in the tough loss.

Rocky Boy also had it rough Saturday night. The defending Class B champion Fairfield Eagles came to Rocky Boy and took down the Morning Stars 73-27 in a 1B clash. Tracy Day Child scored nine points for the Morning Stars, while Sabrina LaForge and Falene Russette added five points each.

As tough as it was for the Morning Stars and Wildcats, the Box Elder Bears remained unbeaten Saturday night after they dismantled 9C rival HLP. On their home floor, the Bears ran away from the T-Birds, 60-39. A 23-7 run in the first eight minutes by Box Elder was more than enough to keep the T-Birds at bay the rest of the game.

Aricka Wolf Chief continued her torrid scoring pace with 21 points, while Brandi Buffalo dropped in 14 points and Crystal Stamper scored 12. The T-Birds were paced by Kristie Runsabove's 15 points, as well as 11 from Shakayla Whitecow.
