MSU-N's Tatarka touted by the Frontier

To no one's surprise, Montana State University-Northern senior guard Shaun Tatarka has been named Frontier Conference Men's Player of the Week.

Tatarka is a 6-foot-1, senior guard from Great Falls, scored 26 points and hit 50 percent of his field goals (8 of 16) including 7-of-14 3-point field goals. His 26 points gave him 1,006 career points. Tatarka also had five rebounds, two assists and one steal. Tatarka became just the 17th Light to ever reach the 1,000-point mark in a career.

UM-Western's Hayley Pettit earned Women's Player of the Week honors. Pettit is a 6-foot-2 junior center from Dillon. Montana-Western opened the Frontier Conference season with a weekend split.

The Bulldogs upset No. 4 Lewis-Clark State 73-53 and lost to Westminster College 63-71. Pettit averaged 18 points, 16 rebounds and 2.5 steals. She was 12 of 23 from the field (52 percent) and 12 of 16 (75 percent) from the free throw line. In the win over Lewis-Clark, she had 17 points and 18 rebounds. MSU-N's Nikki Tresch was nominated this week.
