Hi-Line Athlete Profile: Aricka Wolf Chief

The District 9C Box Elder Bears girls basketball team has emerged as one of the top Class C teams in the state. They continually have one of the top programs loaded with some top talent.

Senior guard Aricka Wolf Chief has been one of those top players since her freshman year. Wolf Chief has been a contributing factor since joining the program, especially last season and to this point this season. She has knack for scoring and was a huge part in the Bears' 9C title two years ago, and their No. 2 9C finish last season. Over the last two seasons, Wolf Chief has led the 9C in scoring, averaging 19 points per game as a sophomore and 20 points per game as a junior. This season, Wolf Chief is pouring in over 20 points per game and has a high of 35 points.

Wolf Chief also played varsity volleyball for the Bears all four years, but has found most of her success on the basketball court. She earned All-Conference honors as a sophomore and junior and also earned All-State honors last season as a junior.

Here's five questions with Box Elder's high-scoing guard.

HDN: What are the team goals this season?

Wolf Chief: "Our goals coming in were to finish first in our conference and to take first place in the district tournament as well."

Box Elder senior Aricka Wolf Chief drives the ball during a District 9C girls basketball game last month in Box Elder. Wolf Chief ha splayed varsity basketball for the Bears for four years and has been the leading scorer in the 9C for the last three seasons. It's no coincidence that the Bears have been to the Northern C Divisional twice in Wolf Chief's career, and the Bears are off to an undefeated start this season.

HDN: Who do you look forward to playing most during the basketball season?

Wolf Chief: "I like playing Chinook, I always look forward to that game. They are always a taller team and we are always shorter, but it always a really close game and it is always a challenge."

HDN: How did you first get interested in the sport of basketball?

Wolf Chief: "I have always just played basketball since I was a little girl. And now I like to travel and play in new places."

HDN: What kind of music do you listen to in the locker room, or on the bus when getting ready for a game?

Wolf Chief: "I actually like to listen to Mr. Irvin's (Box Elder Activities Director) mixed cd's he makes us. He puts R&B and Pop songs together for us. One of my favorites to listen to is 'Winner' by Jamie Fox."

HDN: Do you have a professional basketball team or player that you like to watch, follow?

Wolf Chief: "Well actually, I don't really like to watch basketball. And I didn't really look up to a pro player, but when I was younger I always like to play basketball with my older sister."
