Breaking Sports: Skylights top Saints; Lights fall in OT

The Montana State University-Northern women's basketball team needed a remedy for last weekend's two losses at home. The Skylights got it Thursday night in Helena. Northern played an exceptional second half to beat the struggling Saints 55-50, the Skylights' third straight win in Havre.

Jordan Bruursema paced four Skylights in double figures with 15 points. Laramie Schwenke added 13 points, while Kylee Denham and Laci Keller each scored 10. MSU-N improved to 2-2 in the Frontier Conference and 15-3 overall. Northern will have Friday off before facing Rocky Mountain College Saturday night in Billings.

Meanwhile, the MSU-Northern men suffered a rare Frontier Conference loss Thursday night in Helena. The Lights were up by as many as five points with just over a minute to go. But a Carroll 3-pointer, then missed free throws by LaVon Myers left the game in limbo. The Saints went ahead with four seconds left, but Joe Simpson sank one foul shot to send it to overtime. In the OT, Carroll got a huge basket by Ben Cutler with just two seconds left to lift the Saints to the win.

Northern fell to 3-1 in the Frontier Conference and 17-3 overall. The Lights also lost for the first time since early November. MSU-N plays at Rocky Mountain College on Saturday night.
