Mick was born Aug. 2, 1939, in Havre, Mont., one of six children born to Donald and Frances (Meyer) Golie. He was raised and educated in Havre and graduated from Havre High. In his younger years Mick enjoyed rollerskating and was good enough to skate with his boys on his shoulders and enjoyed competing with his younger sister Sharliene at team skating events. At age 15, Mick went to work for the orginial Buttreys. He worked for them for 44 1/2 years when he retired from Albertsons shortly after they took over. He was an icon at the Buttreys store, always having a good joke for his customers, or an apron full of candy for the kids. He wore many hats in his profession, always filling in where needed. He knew the store better than anyone and could always help people find what they were looking for. He enjoyed playing Santa Claus for the store even after he retired. Mick had a love for people and children. He liked to make bird houses and cork horses to give to people as special gifts for graduation or for Christmas tree ornaments. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a contagious laugh.

He married Emma Ashcroft on Jan. 25, 1969, in Havre. Together they made a loving home and raised two wonderful boys. Mick was so proud to be a father. He loved his boys and enjoyed doing things with them. He shared his love of bowling, which he and his son Micheal won state doubles together, and he enjoyed playing cribbage with Gary until he realized that Gary could beat him. But he always was up to the challenge.

He was a member of the First Lutheran Church, the retail clerks union and served as secretary for the bowling association for many years. He enjoyed the Bear Paw Mountains, camping and visiting his in-laws at Seeley Lake.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Micheal Golie in 1991; and his father in-law, Brutus Ashcroft; and his adopted grandson, Austin Shaw.

Mick is survived by his wife, Emma Golie of Havre; his son, Gary Golie of Havre; grandchildren, Allison, Cameron and Christian Golie, and Trevor, Trey and Hunter Girard; brothers, Hubert (Mary) Golie of Elko, Nev., and Ronald (Dorene) Golie of Lynwood, Wash. ; sister, Sharliene (Clarence) Overby of Gillette, Wyo. ; brother, Martin Golie of Portland, Ore. ; and his sister, Sandra (Jerry) Diamond of New Tazewell, Tenn. ; several nieces and nephews; and many close friends who were like extended family.
