Two Ponies named to Shrine Game

A pair of Havre Blue Ponies will be front and center, representing HHS in one of the most prestigious high school all-star football games in the United States.

Blue Pony seniors Thurman Holdsclaw and Zach Plum were both named to the East Team for the 2013 Montana East/West Shrine Game. The 2013 game will be held July 20 at Butte's Naranche Stadium, and is the 67th game, which makes it one of the longest-running all-star games in the country.

Holdsclaw was voted to the East Team as a tight end. He earned Class A All-State honors at tight end this season, as well as in 2011. He's also a two-time Central A All-Conference performer on both offense and defense, and he led the Blue Ponies in total yards this past season.

Plum was named to the squad as a cornerback. Like Holdsclaw, he too earned Class A All-State honors this past fall, helping HHS to a berth in the Class A playoffs. Plum set an HHS record with 10 interceptions this season, including two different games where he had two more picks. He was also a standout wide receiver on offense, as he earned Central A honors on both sides of the ball.

Plum and Holdsclaw were two of just five total players selected for the Shrine Game. Lewistown also had two players selected, while Belgrade had one.

Chinook senior linebacker Robbie Klingaman was selected to the East Team as an alternate on defense.

The East Team will be coached by Fairfield's Les Meyer., who led the Eagles to the 2011 Class B title. The West is coached by Butte's Arie Gray, who led the Bulldogs to the 2012 AA title.
