Hi-Line darts and laurels Hi-Line Darts and Laurels

Our View:

Laurel — A working group has been struggling for some time on a way to make necessary renovations to the St. Mary Diversion, a program that has been vital to the area for a century. The group moved forward this week when it decided to hire a consultant to draft a detailed work plan for the future. We hope this comes to fruition. The diversion is critical to the economy of the Hi-Line.

Laurel — Bear Paw Development Corp.'s annual report shows that the organization has helped create 30 jobs in the Hi-Line and helped save 69 more. It also had a substantial role in attracting money to the area. Bear Paw has consistently been critical to the area's economic and social success, but now more than ever. As federal funds become more scarce, it is vital the Hi-Line have someone who knows where the federal and money is and how we can get it to the Hi-Line.

Dart — The Montana Department of Military Affairs is the center of controversy again. Employees have long contended that there is a hostile work environment at the department. Reports of verbal abuse and sexual harassment have surfaced again. A survey is being conducted with employees to see just what their thoughts are. A full investigation is warranted.

Laurel — he Montana Army National Guard will hold a Freedom Salute Ceremony 1 p.m. Sunday at Helena's Great Northern Town Center for 50 soldiers returning from Afghanistan. The soldiers took time out of their lives to take part in a heavy lift aviation unit, staffing CH 47 Chinook helicopters. Montana has traditionally provided more than its share of military personnel. That has been true for the Afghanistan conflict as well. It's great these brave people are being saluted.
