Area preps shine in Senior Classic

The annual Senior Classic boys and girls basketball games have become a time-honored tradition on the Hi-Line. Hosted by North Star High School, the one-day event as one of the most popular all-star games amongst area seniors.

And this year's games were no different. North Star played host to the 2013 Senior Classic on Tuesday afternoon.

In the boys game, the Dark Team, coached by Chinook's Mike Seymour defeated the White Team, coached by North Star's Cody Donoven, 59-56. Marvin Cole of Hays-Lodge Pole scored 16 points, while HLP's Jeff Sorrell and Chinook's Grant Tilleman each added 10 for the winning team. The White Team was paced by 14 points from Big Sandy's Trevor Lackner and 10 by HLP's Gage Essert in the loss. Cole was the game's MVP, while Kameron Ratzburg of Sunburst and Zac Leader of Big Sandy earned Sportsmanship awards.

Big Sandy's Kaden Beck beat Leader 28-26 in the boys 3-point contest.

In the girls game, the Dark Team, coached by North Star's Griff Bye beat the White Team, coached by Chinook's Charlie Robinson, 59-50. The winning team saw Big Sandy's Mateila Cline score a game-high 22 points, while Box Elder's Rebecca Rosette added 11. The White squad got 14 points from Big Sandy's Leela Engle and 13 by HLP's Shakayla Whitecow. Cline was named the MVP of the game, while North Star's Lisa Carlon and Kassidy Hansen earned the Sportsmanship awards.

Whitecow defeated Chester/J-I's Caitlin Vinson 30-29 in the girls 3-point contest, while the Box Elder team of Rosette, Kyle Fiddler and Jacob Burns captured the Shooting Stars contest.
