Juneau names 23 new members to Student Advisory Board

Press release

Judi-Ann Doney, a junior from Havre High School, will served as one of 23 new members of Superintendent of Public Instruction Denise Juneau's Student Advisory Board.

Juneau said, "I'm really excited to welcome these new members to the Student Advisory Board. I have personally read each student's application and the recommendations from adults in their lives.”

"The unique perspective each student brings to the board is extremely valuable as we work community by community to improve the graduation rate and educational opportunities for all students," Juneau said.

The board consists of 40 high school students from 34 Montana schools.

Student Advisory Board members were nominated by local schools and community members and had to apply for selection to the board.

Juneau received 84 nominations from communities across the state. The board members, in grades 9–12, come from rural communities such as Absarokee and Cut Bank and from larger communities such as Billings and Kalispell. They represent the diverse range of experiences and backgrounds of Montana students.

The Student Advisory Board is part of Juneau's statewide initiative, Graduation Matters Montana. This program aims to increase the number of students who graduate from high school prepared for college and careers.

The first meeting of the 2013-2014 Student Advisory Board will be held Oct. 27 and 28 in Helena.
