Nonpartisan elections crosses first hurdle

Havre City Council took the first step in changing to nonpartisan elections Monday night when unanimously gave tentative approval to a referendum on the fall ballot.

Two residents, State Rep. Kris Hansen, and former Hill County GOP chair Brad Lotton spoke in favor of the proposal.

While the resolution's sponsor, Andrew Brekke, 4th Ward alderman and present GOP chair, was asked several questions, no opposition surfaced on the council.
