Eliene was born on Sept. 30, 1916, on a homestead at Fresno, Mont ., to Nick and Mary (Lammerding) Schend. The family moved to Havre in 1923 and she attended grade school at St. Jude Thaddeus School and graduated from Havre High School in 1935. Eliene worked as a waitress in Havre before marrying Miles L. "Auntie," as she was known to her family, was always cheerful, kind and patient no matter what life dealt her.  She was a terrific cook and baker and was always willing to share her knowledge of gardening, flowers, cooking, canning, and the Catholic faith and traditions.
