It's here: It's officially fair week in Havre

Great Northern Fair means a busy sports week ahead

Summer seemed like it only arrived in Havre yesterday. But the Great Northern Fair usually marks the halfway point in Havre’s summers, and that halfway point has arrived.

The annual Great Northern Fair begins Wednesday, and the sports scene at the fair will be as busy as ever.

However, there are some changes to the sport’s schedule this week. One major change is, there are no longer local and professional truck pulls. The truck pull used to occupy the Saturday sports slot at the fair, with the locals in the afternoon and professional circuit running in the evening.

And with no truck pulls this week, the rodeo schedule has changed as well.

The Havre Junior Rodeo usually kicks off the fair on Wednesday night, but this year’s rodeo will take place Thursday night starting at 5 p.m. in the Great Northern Fairgrounds arena. The next two nights, the annual Northern Rodeo Association Great Northern Stampede will hit the arena, with performances at 7 p.m. Friday and 6 p.m. Saturday.

And finally, one thing that won’t change is the annual Jaycees Demolition Derby. Year-in-and-year-out, the derby closes fair week, and it will again send the fair out with a bang this Sunday. The demo derby starts at 5 p.m. Sunday.
