Hi-Line Volleyball Roundup

Chinook picks up two more 6C East wins

Last week was a short one for area high school volleyball teams. Most area teams played early, then had the weekend off as school was out for the Montana teacher's conventions.

However, this coming week will be a big one up and down the Hi-Line as regular season district championships will be decided, and district tournaments are just a week out.

Chinook posted a pair of impressive wins last week, starting on Monday night when the Sugarbeeters toppled the Big Sandy Pioneers by scores of 19-25, 25-16, 25-21 and 25-17 in a huge District 6C East clash.

Makhayla Farmer had 21 kills, eight blocks and two aces in the win, while Katelyn Neibauer had a big match as well, totaling eight kills and 10 blocks. Hannah Weber and Mariah Swank combined for 30 assists. The Pioneers were led by nine kills, eight digs and two blocks from Molly Herron. Kaylie Gilman added six kills and Shelby Gasvoda had six service aces.

Chinook racked up another 6C East win on Tuesday night, beating Hays-Lodge Pole by scores of 25-12, 25-11 and 25-17 in Chinook. The Beeters got eight kills and nine aces from Brooke Nicholson, while Jordan Surber had 17 assists.

North Star was also victorious Tuesday, beating Valier in four games on the road. The Knights beat the Panthers by scores of 25-14, 22-25, 25-5 and 25-17. Bettie Carlon had a season-high 22 kills for the Knights, while Graysen Spicher had 26 assists and Tylynn Rettig totaled 24 digs and three aces.

In Class B action Tuesday night, Rocky Boy was swept by Fairfield, 25-11, 25-5 and 25-8. Rainey Singer had 20 digs for the Morning Stars in the loss.

A tough season continued for the Chester/J-I Hawks last week as well. On Tuesday night, the Hawks lost a heartbreaker to rival Dutton-Brady at home. The Diamondbacks beat the Hawks in five games, by scores of 25-18, 14-25, 25-12, 17-25 and 15-12. Peyton Cole had nine kills and two blocks for C/J-I, while Denerey Haaland and Erin Wolfe racked up 22 digs each.

Wednesday night saw the Hawks lose another tough one at home. The Hawks were beaten by Stanford-Denton-Geyser by score of 25-17, 25-12, 25-27 and 25-18. Haaland had a big match, totaling 12 kills, 28 digs and two aces. Emma Earl added 11 assists in the loss.

Also on Wednesday, the Harlem Wildcats dropped a three-setter to the Malta M-Ettes in Harlem. Malta won by scores of 25-10, 25-18 and 25-18.
