George Ferguson Column: Don't miss out on the historic Skylights tonight

From the Fringe...

You guys did it with the Montana State University-Northern football team. You’ve done it more than once for the MSU-N basketball team. Now, it’s time to do it for Skylight volleyball.

Two of the biggest attendance days in Northern history have happened recently, first in 2006 when MSU-N beat Carroll College in Havre in one of the most memorable football games in Lights’, and Havre history. The second such game happened two years ago, when the MSU-Northern men’s basketball team captured the Frontier Conference Tournament championship, beating UM-Western in a sold-out Armory Gymnasium.

Now the Skylights have the chance to add their name to a Frontier championship tonight, and they would love your help.

When Northern takes on Rocky Mountain College tonight, the outright Frontier regular season title, and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Frontier tournament will be at stake. Tonight is also senior night for the Skylights, and you don’t need me to tell you how great this senior class has been.

So, with emotions already running at an all-time high when it comes to Northern volleyball, the only thing left to do is pack the Armory. Yes, how special would it be for the largest volleyball crowd ever to gather tonight to help the Skylights take on the only other true power house in the Frontier right now.

How special would it be to have the loudest volleyball crowd ever at a Northern match there tonight to help the Skylights honor their seniors, and to help them win a regular season Frontier championship, something that hasn’t happened at MSU-N, well, since the school was still called Northern Montana College.

You need to be there tonight because these Skylights are special. You need to be there tonight because this team is remarkable, and what the Skylights have done, and are doing is nothing short of incredible. You need to be there tonight because you might remember six or seven years ago when seemingly few people cared about this program, so tonight is the definition of things coming full circle.

But most of all, you need to be there tonight because the Skylights are making history, and a win over Rocky tonight would write a brand new chapter for an already historic Northern volleyball team.

But then again, if you’re a fan of the Skylights, you didn’t need me to tell you all of that. You already knew it.

Tonight, Northern can make history, tonight Northern can become a part of history in volleyball. And you, as fans, can be a part of that history too, because a large, sold-out, screaming loud crowd for a volleyball match in Havre would be historic in itself.

Why in the world would you want to miss that? Whether you’re a volleyball fan, or just a sports fan in general, you don’t want to miss tonight in the Armory Gymnasium, because tonight, the Skylights are on the brink of history.
