John J. 'Jerry' Pancake

John J. "Jerry" Pancake, 78, died Saturday, Nov. 16, of natural causes at home in Honolulu, surrounded by loved ones.

He was born to Stanley and Evelyn (Seel) Pancake in Malta, Mont., Jan. 26, 1935, and attended Malta schools. Jerry was raised by his father and stepmother, Gladys (Watson) Pancake on the family farm north of Wagner, Mont.

Jerry's early work experiences included managing a hotel in Seattle, Wash., and working as a brakeman for the Great Northern Railroad in Havre. After relocating to Santa Cruz, Calif., he owned and operated the Peter Pan Motel for many years. Later, he opened his first jewelry store, and worked the remainder of his life in the jewelry business. Jerry fell in love with Hawaii and decided to live out his days there.

He is survived by

his stepmother, Gladys Pancake; a sister, Sharon (Russell) Bitz, Boise, Idaho; a sister, Sally (Ronald) Saunders, American Fork, Utah; a sister, Susan (John) Rutter; a brother, Joe Pancake, Boise, Idaho; and his longtime companion, Carmen Quiban, Waipahu, Hawaii.
