Johnson pleads not guilty to murdering his brother

A Havre man pleaded not guilty in state District Court in Havre this afternoon to a charge accusing him of shooting and killing his brother in their Havre residence Nov. 9.

Shane Clark Johnson, born in 1968, is accused of shooting his 43-year-old brother Travis Johnson in the head twice. Travis Johnson died at the hospital after he was transported by emergency medical personnel.

Shane Johnson told investigating officers both that it was in self-defense and that the gun went off when his brother knocked him down a set of stairs, a court document says.

District Judge Dan Boucher. Boucher scheduled an omnibus hearing, in which trial dates usually are set, for Jan. 13.

Boucher said if Public Defender Tom Schoenleben could provide him with confirmation that Donna Biem, the Johnson’s mother, and Robert Biem, their stepfather, wanted to have contact with Shane Johnson he would consider granting that motion.

Johnson is in the Hill County Detention Center being held on $500,000 bond.
