Chanal Standing Rock, Rocky Boy Girls Basketball
Talk about getting off to a great start. Rocky Boy senior Chanal Standing Rock is doing just that on the hardwood. Standing Rock averaged more than 20 points per night in last weekend’s Native American Classic in Havre, but she exploded in a Thursday-night win at Harlem. Standing Rock scored an amazing 40 points for the unbeaten Morning Stars, and followed that performance up with another 20 points on Friday against Cut Bank. Standing Rock also nailed four 3-pointers against the Wildcats and another four three’s against the Wolves.
Parker Filius, Havre High Wrestling
The fifth time was the charm for Havre High freshman Parker Filius, and as a result, he earned the prestigious Most Outstanding Wrestler Award at this weekend’s CMR Holiday Classic in Great Falls. Filius had lost four times in three weeks to Great Falls High’s Austin Schupe, but he got over the hump with a 7-3 win over Schupe in Saturday morning’s 138-pound semifinal. Filius went on to beat Choteau’s J.J. Werdal for the championship Saturday night. The freshman grappler also had a standout season for the Blue Pony football team.
