Little progress for now on police chief search, Bullhook repairs

Mayor Tim Solomon said the search for a new chief of police is not making much progress at the moment.

Solomon said he has not had much time to dedicate to the search and said Acting Chief of Police Gabe Matosich has been doing a great job.

“Gabe has been working well,” Solomon said. “I’ve been visiting with people from within and outside the department to decide on which way I’m going to go with it.”

Matosich was named acting chief after Kirk Fitch retired Sept. 16.

Solomon also said the look at the Bullhook Channel has also not made much progress.

“We have to ask the engineer’s office to put it out for bids,” Solomon said. “I haven’t asked what time frame they’re looking at at the moment.”

The engineer’s office still must draw up the project for contractors to bid on. The project will include taking a look at the structure of the Bullhook Channel to address any weak points that may need tending to.

The study was prompted by the collapse of a section of 3rd Street on Oct. 4
