Davis sentenced on child sexual assault

A Havre man will spend three years in federal prison and five more on probation for sexually assaulting a 6-year-old who was looking for her mother.

A jury in a four-day federal trial that started Nov. 12 convicted William “Rooster” Decature Davis Jr., 47, of sexual assault of a minor.

U.S. District Judge Dana Christensen last week sentenced Davis to 36 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release, a Tuesday afternoon press release from the U.S. Attorney’s office says.

The jury convicted Davis after the prosecution presented evidence that he assaulted the girl in 2007 while he lived next door to her and her mother in a trailer park on Fort Belknap Indian Reservation.

The victim told officials in 2012, when she was 12, that Davis had raped her.

She testified during the trial that she woke up one night and could not find her mother. She walked next door to her neighbor’s trailer to look for her mother, walked into the trailer and saw Davis sitting on the couch and drinking beer.

Davis called the girl over and he grabbed her by the front of the shirt and sexually assaulted her. When the assault was over, the girl put her clothes on and ran out of the door.

I'm glad he did get sentenced to prison but I am completely disappointed that he got such a short sentence. This little girl will be effected for her entire life. However he gets out he's going to re-iffend, prison time won't cure him from being a child molester.
