'Men Who Cook' benefit will help medical travel

Hi-Line residents often come down with serious illnesses. They have to travel distances to get specialized medical treatment.

Traveling puts a financial burden on many families.

Sometimes, it involves going to Great Falls and having to stay overnight, said Julianne Smith of the Northern Montana Hospital Foundation.

People need help in paying overnight accommodations or assistance paying for transportation.

That's where Men Who Cook for Women Who Wine comes in.

This is the eighth year that men who live along the Hi-Line prepare fine foods to put on the annual program at the community center in Hingham.

Since 2010, when the benefit began to donate funds to "Serving of Hope," more than $100,000 has been donated to the foundation to provide help to people who need it. The assistance goes to people who qualify in Blaine, Phillips, Hill and Liberty counties and the Big Sandy area.

This year, the celebration will take place starting at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 5, at the community center.

The idea of the program is to have male "chefs" showcase culinary specialties and skills, let area people sample the dishes and vote for their favorites.

Tickets entitle people to have a beverage of their choice and taste all of the food they can. They also will get three ballots to vote for their favorites.

Live and silent auctions and games people can try their luck with are a part of the evening's entertainment.

The goal of the evening is to come together with family and friends to visit, laugh and help raise money for a good cause, said Cathie Haas and Joyce Donoven, two of the event's organizers.

This year, there will be a new selection of wine. Three new and different red wines and two white wines will be added thanks to Terry Courtright with Red, White and Blush Wines and Mike Spencer of Spencer's Hi-Way Bar and Grill in Hingham.

Tickets for the eighth annual "Men Who Cook for Women Who Wine" are on sales.

They are $25 per person and $275 for a table of eight.

Tickets are on sale at Northern Montana Hospital Foundation office, Norman's Ranch and Sportswear, The Walleye Tavern, Ag Wise (Steve Preeshl) in Kremlin, the Gildford Merc in Gildford, Spencer's Hi-Way Bar and Grill in Hingham, McNail Furniture in Rudyard and from Joyce and Dennis Donoven 395-4505, Denise and Lowell Strissel 397-3169, Debbie and Mark Warren 397-3135 or Cathie and Roger Haas 397-3111.

Reserved tables can be purchased only by calling Christen Obresley at Northern Montana Hospital Foundation, 265-1410.
