Makhayla Farmer, Chinook Basketball
Chinook senior Makhayla Farmer is no stranger to big 9C tournament games. And she showed up big time in her last-ever 9C tourney this past weekend in Havre. In Chinook’s championship game win over North Star Saturday night, Farmer scored a game-high 16 points. She also led the Beeters with 13 points in their semifinal win over Box Elder last Thursday. Farmer led the 9C in rebounding and was second in scoring this past season, and she’ll continue her basketball career at Montana State University-Northern next fall.
Junior Day Child, Rocky Boy Basketball
The Rocky Boy Stars are on a roll and so was Junior Day Child at this past weekend’s District 1B tournament in Cut Bank. Day Child scored 26 points in the Stars’ win over Fairfield in the championship game Saturday night, but he also poured in 26 points in a semifinal win over Choteau Friday and 18 points in a victory over Conrad. Day Child averaged seven rebounds per game in the tournament as he helped the Stars win their second straight 1B title and advance to this week’s Northern B.
