Dorothy J. 'Dixie' Cooper

HAVRE - Dorothy J. "Dixie" Cooper, 79, of Havre, passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2014, at Benefis Medical Center of natural causes.

Dixie passed peacefully with her family adoringly at her side. Cremation has taken place, and private family graveside services will be held at a later date. Her family has requested that memorials be made to the Havre-Hill County Library, 402 3rd Street, Havre, MT 59501. Dixie was born on July 6, 1934, in Gate, Okla., to Thomas and Helen (Hanzl) Dougan, and was raised in Oklahoma and Kansas. She married Eugene Cooper in Wichita, Kan., on April 7, 1954. As a military wife starting in Hutchinson, Kan., she traveled with her husband until his Navy retirement (California, Tennessee, Arizona and Hawaii) in Alameda, Calif., in 1967. She moved to Great Falls, Mont., with her husband Gene as he remained in the Naval Reserve for the next 10 years. Her final move was to Havre in 1971 with her husband and children. Dixie worked in the electronics industry in California, and as the manager of the Super 8 Motel in Havre for many years. Those who knew her loved her and admired her compassion, generosity and witty sense of humor. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, camping, hunting, Facebook and Klasique Goldens.

Dixie was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Helen Dougan; her sister, Mary Dougan; and her four brothers, Billy Dougan, David Dougan, Frank Dougan and Tom Dougan.

She is survived by her loving husband, Eugene Cooper of Havre; her two daughters, Sherry Cooper (Darryl) Chevalier of Arlington, Wash., and Tina Cooper McIntosh of Las Vegas, Nev .; her two grandchildren, Crystal and Sommer McIntosh and her grandson Wyatt Lowry, all of Las Vegas, Nev .; and her sister-in-law, Atsuko Dougan of Great Falls, Mont.
