George was born Feb. 22, 1932, in Rocky Boy, on a snowy day when lightning struck, thus his Chippewa Cree name "Thunder Hawk." He was the eighth child of Roger and Mary (Pepin) St. Pierre. He was raised in Rocky Boy, where he attended the Old Sangrey and Old Agency schools. He was a graduate of Salinas High School in Salinas, Calif. George was a very proud, reserved and independent man. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on April 19, 1951. He served as the training officer of the Korean conflict. He continued to work part time until 2006. George was a vital instrument in the surveying and construction of many of the roads we drive on today ... Crow, Rocky Boy, Fort Belknap, Highway 87, and the Dakotas - "Roads of Montana."

After retirement, George enjoyed reading, fishing and his daily routine of picking up his mail, his newspaper and making sure all his bills were paid on time.
