On the opening day of the 2014 Frontier Conference Golf Championships, the 2013-14 Frontier Men's and Women's All-Conference teams were announced.
Montana State University-Northern senior Justin Newton was named Second-Team All-Conference for the season. It was the second time Newton, who came to Northern from North Idaho College two years ago, has earned All-Conference accolades.
The First Team was made up of UGF's Jason Fritz, Carroll College's Connor Hausauer, Chris Lein of Lewis-Clark State, his teammate, James Walkinshaw and Daniel Thompsett of Rocky Mountain College.
Joining Newton on the Second Team was RMC's Taylor Noble, Westminster's Robert McKee and Kalin Peterson and Carroll's Taylor Ratliff. Thompsett was named Frontier Player of the Year.
No MSU-N women were named All-Conference for this season, while LCSC's Heather Bruce earned Frontier Player of the Year honors.
After one day of the Frontier championships, which are being held at Larchmont Golf Course in Missoula, Newton is tied for third place in the individual standings, while the Lights sit in sixth place overall. Carroll leads by five strokes and Westminster by six shots after 36 holes.
On the women's side, MSU-N sits in sixth place overall, while RMC leads LCSC by just one stroke with today's final 18 holes still to be played.
