Top 10 Track Meet today in Glasgow

Every year the Glasgow Scotties track and field team welcomes in some of the area’s best talent for the annual Top 10 meet. And just like every year, the Havre High Blue Ponies will be well represented.

Today, a select few of the Central A Blue Pony track and field athletes will compete in Glasgow. This unique meet allows the best of the best the opportunity to compete against nine other worthy opponents. And while the Ponies will be competing against a lot of Class C and Class B individuals, today’s action should also give the Ponies a good idea of who has a shot at placing at divisionals, and maybe even at state.

In boys action, HHS will have seven athletes competing in eight events. Both the long and short relay teams will also compete.

Kade Rismon will compete in two events. His throw of 44-6 has him as an eight seed in the shot put, while his throw of 125-3 in the discus, has him entering today as the No. 8 thrower as well. Ryne Antley has been outstanding in the javelin, and after a throw of 154-4, Antley is in the No. 6 spot. Brock Ross is also a seven seed with a time of 5:18.00 in the 1600-meter, while Nate Rismon is a 10 seed in the triple jump (39-6), and Brauk Wood is a 10 seed in the high jump (5-6). The Ponies also have two athletes competing in the pole vault. Thomas Gruber has cleared 12-6, the third best vaulter in the area, while Gunnar Aageson has cleared 12-0, and enters as the fourth best.

The boys’ long relay has also run a 3:56.9 and enters as a seven seed, while the short relay has run a 46.94, and enters as a three seed, just behind Glasgow and Baker.

In girls action, the Ponies also have seven girls competing in eight individual events, as well as both relay teams.

Havre’s short relay team has turned in a time of 55.04, good enough for a six seed, while the long relay team has turned in a time of 4:30.5, and enter the meet as the No. 1 seed. But Martha Stocker has performed well this season and will compete in two events today. Stocker is a five seed in the shot put, her best being 33-10, and is a five seed in the discus, with her best throw being 98-5 so far this season. Carliegh Rennick will compete in the discus, as her throw of 93-2 was good enough to garner an invite. Lacey Waid rounds off the field events, as the favorite to win the girls pole vault. Waid has won every meet she has competed in this season, and her school record height of 10-6 has her as the No. 1 seed. Aubrey Kessel of Sidney and Erin Harris of Sidney will push Waid, as they have both cleared 10-3 this season.

On the track, Naomi Terry will compete in the 300 hurdles. Terry’s time of 52.44 has her in the middle of the pack as a four seed, and about four seconds behind No. 1 Sophia Stiles of Malta. Rachel David is the No. 2 runner in the 400, while Peyton Filius is also the No. 2 runner in the 800. David’s best time is 63.14, and Filius’ best time is 2:31.72. Megan Erickson will also run the 800 as the five seed. Eerickson’s best time is 2:44.10.

If the Pony athletes can turn in solid times and marks, HHS should get some top placers today. It will take tremendous efforts by the girls and boys individuals, but the Ponies have turned in strong performances all season long. Teams like North Star and Chinook will also be in attendance today.
