Locals star at Top 10 Meet

Another Glasgow Top 10 track meet is in the books, and like every year, several local athletes performed very well against some of the area’s best track and field stars.

Tuesday evening in Glasgow, standouts from Havre High, Chinook, Hays-Lodge Pole, and Harlem turned in good numbers and marks on the track and in the field. No team totals were kept, but the Hi-Line’s best still shined in individual events.

On the girls side of things, the Havre High Blue Ponies placed in four events, including three individuals. The 4x100 relay team finished in third with a time of 55.02, but Rachel David, Peyton Filius, and Lacey Waid also placed. David placed third in the 400 with a time of 1:05.6, while Filius placed second in the 800 with a time of 2:36.21. Waid also got a second-place finish, clearing 10-2 in the pole vault for the Ponies.

But the Havre Boys didn’t do half bad either, as they also got two individual placers. Both Thomas Gruber and Gunnar Aageson placed in the pole vault. Gruber earned a personal best by clearing 13-0, while Aageson tied his personal best by clearing 12-0.

The Chinook Sugarbeeters also placed a solid group of athletes, but were highlighted by the girls’ efforts.

With a time of 4:47.80, the Beeters 4x400 relay team took second, but five girls also placed in seven different events. Britney Nelson was the No. 1 finisher in the shot put with a toss of 35-9, and finished second in the discus with a throw of 109-4. Kailey Kleinjan also placed in two events, including her first-place finish in the 100 with a time of 12.98, and her fourth-place finish in the 200 with a time of 27.84. Hannah Weber also finished the 800 in fourth place (2:44.37), while Emily Dennis finished the triple jump in fourth place (34-6), and Makhayla Farmer placed fourth in the javelin (95-5).

Zach Molyneux also led the Chinook boys with two top finishes. Molyneaux finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 48-6, as well as second in the discus with a throw of 134-7. Kyler Johnson also took second in the 1600 with a time of 5:07.37.

Hays-Lodge Pole and Harlem also got some top finishes Tuesday evening in Glasgow.

Cody Kirkaldie finished the 3200 in third place for the HLP Thunderbirds (11:07.60), while Tristan Gone finished the 1600 in fourth place for the Wildcats, with a time of 5:14.70.

Teams will continue to compete in the final stretch of the 2014 season, including Havre hosting a triangular Saturday. The Ponies will welcome in Lewistown and Malta at the Havre Middle School track and field.
