Wanted man arrested after police chase

Christopher Michelotti, 30, of Great Falls was arrested early Monday in Havre after police chased him from Rocky Boy.

A Be On the Look-Out, or BOLO, alert was issued for Michelotti May 22 after he was wanted for an aggravated burglary charge for a break-in he allegedly committed May 11. He was shot in the leg during the burglary and went on the run while he was in the hospital.

An Associated Press article says the chase was initiated by Rocky Boy police and continued into Havre. The vehicle being pursued was stopped by a spike strip southeast of Havre after 2 a.m.

The driver of the vehicle, Cheenah Marie Piapot, 26, of Box Elder, was arrested on charges of obstructing justice, criminal endangerment, reckless driving and fleeing from or eluding a peace officer.

Michelotti was arrested on a state District Court warrant.

KRTV reported yesterday that the Chippewa Cree Law Enforcement was tipped off that Michelotti was in a home in the Box Elder area.

After law enforcement put the home under surveillance, Michelotti and three others were seen getting into a vehicle. After officers tried to pull the vehicle over, the driver did not stop and the chase ensued.

The Hill County Sheriff’s Office and the Montana Highway Patrol were called for assistance with the chase.

Michelotti was transferred into the hands of the U.S. Marshals Monday, Hill County Sheriff Don Brostrom said.

Michelotti is now housed at the Cascade County Detention Facility on a $500,000 bond.
