North Stars rained out yet again

Babe Ruth tourney underway, more baseball and softball to come

For the second straight day, the Havre North Stars American Legion baseball team lost out. But it wasn’t a Northern District rival which beat the North Stars, instead it was the weather.

The North Stars were scheduled to play a pair of conference games against the Great Falls Electrics Wednesday afternoon at Don Olson Field, but rain forced the games to be postponed. The makeup date for the conference doubleheader is set for July 8 in Great Falls.

Havre also lost its two games with Tri-County, which were slated for Tuesday in Conrad. Like Wednesday’s games, Tuesday’s doubleheader was also rained out. No makeup date for those contests has been announced.

Now Havre will head to Deer Lodge Friday for the Deer Lodge Tournament. The North Stars are guaranteed five games in Deer Lodge, and the winner of each pool will meet Sunday in a championship game.

The North Stars return home for games against the Missoula Prospects and Great Falls Outlaws next week at Legion Field.

Meanwhile, Legion Field did dry up enough Thursday to start the Havre Youth Baseball Babe Ruth City Tournament. The tournament will continue with games tonight at 5:30 and 7:30, as well as the third-place game set for 5:30 p.m. Friday. The winner’s bracket championship game is slated for 7:30 p.m. Friday with an if-necessary game to be played at a later date if needed.

Tonight also marks the start of the HYBA Major League City Tournament. That event will be held at Lions Park and will conclude with Sunday’s championship game.

The Havre Girls Fastpitch Association will also wrap up its season next week at the Sixth Avenue Memorial Field. The A-League Tournament will run Monday and Tuesday. On Monday, games will be played at 5:30, 7 and 8:30 p.m. with the championship game set for Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. The B-League tournament will start Tuesday night following the A-League championship game and run through Thursday night’s championship tilt.
