Dart — The idea of the state taking control of federal land in Montana is, unfortunately, taking hold in some quarters. Montana’s federal lands are national treasures that are enjoyed by people around the country. The people of the United States ought to pay for their upkeep and maintenance. The idea of states taking over federal lands could open up a whole new can of worms. Should New York State take over the Statue of Liberty or the District of Columbia assume control of the Washington Monument?

Laurel — The Blaine County Fair provides an opportunity for people from throughout the Hi-Line to gather for some wholesome family fun. The fair is underway now and will last through Sunday. The fair has had problems in recent years attracting carnival rides, but that problem has been solved. There will be all kinds of fun along with the carnival rides from the rodeo to a concert and a pig wrestling contest. And don’t forget, the Great Northern Fair is next on the agenda.

Laurel — Big Sandy is the little town on the prairie with the big heart. The community has once again shown its spirit. The community is in need of a new library, so people are gathering to raise funds. They are also working to tear down an old building to make way for the new library. And while they are in the act of community service, people will also be helping out a well-known community resident Russ Alderdice, who was injured in a farm accident. They will hold a benefit for him at City Hall July 25.
