Elaine Lynde

Alda Elaine (Harris) Lynde was called to Heaven at Northern Montana Care Center on July 4, 2014, after a lengthy illness. A memorial service is to be held at First Presbyterian Church on Friday, July 18, at 11:30 a.m., followed by a reception in the social hall. Another memorial service will be held at the Care Center at a time yet to be determined.

Elaine was born in Fairview, Montana, on May 31, 1946, to Bernice (Dore) and Edward Harris and had one brother, Edward David Harris. Elaine and Harold were married in Seattle, Washington. Harold's job transferred them to many places finally bringing them to Havre in 1970.

Elaine was much loved in the community and known for her hearty laugh and big heart. She loved to play cards at the Senior Center and then at the Care Center she played cards, bingo and board games as well as working her Word Search or Sudoku books and seasonal craft projects. In fact, until the last few months it was difficult to find her in her room for she was off socializing. Elaine also loved cats, butterflies and children.

A member of the Board of Deacons at First Presbyterian Church, she was especially fond of making beautiful prayer shawls for the sick and grieving, believing that all the love she put into them was reflected in the warmth of these cozy creations. Before presenting the prayer shawl, she would pass it around the congregation so that each member might also bless it before it was given to the recipient.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother; and beloved husband, Harold. Elaine is survived by her son, Jerry (Aleeshia Viktora) of Seattle; and a granddaughter, Autumn Azure of Missoula, Montana. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Elaine Lynde fund.
