Havre U12 stars head to regionals in Kalispell

Just two weeks ago, the Havre U12 All-Star Team played host to the Cal Ripken Montana East State Tournament. And while the Havre squad fell just short of its dream of winning a state championship, the dream to keep playing baseball this summer is very much alive.

Havre finished third at the state tournament two weeks ago at the Sixth Avenue Memorial Field, but the team still received an invitation to play in the Cal Ripken U12 Northwest Regional, which will be held this weekend in Kalispell.

The action in Kalispell starts today as Havre, two other Montana teams, as well as state champions from Idaho, Washington, Oregon and Alberta all compete for a chance to move on to the Cal Ripken U12 World Series. In pool play, Havre will face Alberta, Polson (MT) and Caldwell (ID).

The Havre team is composed of Bridger Staples, Caleb Allestad, Cameron Pleninger, Eli Cloninger, Ethan Werk, Jacob Miller, Jake Huston, Leyton Shennum, Quinn Reno, Quinn Springer, Tanner Parson and Tyrel Kjersem. The team is coached by Darin Miller, Randy Cloninger and Shane Reno.

“The kids are super excited to be able to play and represent Montana at this tournament,” said coach Miller.

Havre has two games today, one against Alberta this afternoon and the other against Polson tonight at 8:30. Havre wraps up pool play against Caldwell at 12 p.m. Friday, and then will play in the single-elimination tournament Saturday and Sunday. The tournament champion will earn a spot in the Cal Ripken U12 World Series Aug. 6-12 in Florida.
